Congratulations, 5th Graders!

You all worked so hard to create your projects this year, so we're going to celebrate this week by looking back on all of the hard work you completed. Please start by clicking the link below for your school--if you don't go to one of these schools, you may choose whichever link you'd like. :)

About this project

ATTENTION STUDENTS: If your Spanish teacher this year was Señor Hughes, Señora Steimel, or Señora Ahlquist, you did not work on this project. You are welcome to see all that we have been doing, but do not need to read any further. :)

If your teacher was Señorita Watts, please keep reading. :)

Hola, amigos. Many of you have been asking about the plans for the rest of our project that we started back in October/ November. Since there are so many of you that have put forth so much hard work in on this project, I don't think it would be fair not to allow you the option to continue. I would like to make it clear that the final few slides of our project are OPTIONAL. I am going to trust YOU to choose what works best for you.

Here are your options moving forward:
  1. Work on Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) on this website INSTEAD of the last few slides of your project.
  2. Work on the last few slides of your project INSTEAD of the ELOs on this website.
  3. Work on BOTH ELOs AND the final slides of your project.
**ELOs are the lessons that I have been posting on this website (such as the Ecuador lesson, Cinco de Mayo, paper doll, etc.)

No matter which of the options above you choose, we WILL celebrate all of the hard work you each put into your projects. I will send you all an email with more information in the future.

Please share with me which option you would like to choose in the survey to the right.

Then, if you choose option 2 or 3, please continue reading. If you are choosing option 1 (not to finish your project), you do not need to keep reading. :)
Video explanation of the information on the left.

Which of the three options are you choosing?

**This survey is only for students who have Señorita Watts as their teacher this year :)

The plan

Each week when you log on to see our Spanish lessons, if you choose to continue this project, please come back to THIS webpage. I plan to update this page every week. You will notice that we won't be completing all of the slides that were originally planned. There are a few reasons for this: I don't want to overwhelm you, we don't have enough time, and some slides are hard to explain when I can't be there with you.

Here is the schedule moving forward:

May 11th-15th: Community places slide
May 18th-22nd: Clothing description slide
May 25th-29th: Final slide and editing
June 1st-5th: SHARE our projects

Throughout the next few weeks, if you have questions about this project you may email me directly OR tag me in your project with your question.

May 11th-15th: Community places slide

This week, we will go back to the vocabulary and sentence structures we were learning in March. If you need to review our vocabulary, please see the links/videos below.

We practiced this sentence structure after watching the Anthony Anderson Super Bowl commercial.
Your task this week is:
  1. Find 4 authentic images of community locations from your exploration country.
    1. Think back to how we discussed finding authentic photos (typing your country’s name in the search bar, looking through several photos to make sure the one you like looks similar, not just choosing the first image/ the coolest one).
    2. Each location should represent one of our vocabulary words
  2. Label each image in Spanish. (Make sure to label it correctly using OUR vocabulary).
  3. Hide a family member in one of the locations. (My example is large, yours can be smaller.)
  4. Review our sentence structure “¿Dónde está_____?" from when we watched the Super Bowl commercial
  5. Add a question asking where the family member is hiding.
    1. EX: ¿Dónde está el abuelo?

Here is my example:

**Originally, the community slide was called slide 7 in our directions. We will be skipping slide 6 (family member slide), so this SHOULD be your 6th slide in your presentation.

Remember, if you have questions, you may tag me in your original project with that question or you may send me an email directly.

May 18th-22nd: Clothing description slide

Start this week by reviewing the clothing vocabulary and the differences between llevo and lleva, which can be found below.

Directions for this week’s slide:
  1. Do some RESPONSIBLE searches on your iPad for clothing from your exploration country.
    1. EX: Type “la ropa Cuba” OR “la ropa Estados Unidos”
    2. You could also look for traditional clothing to see what types of cultural styles are worn for special occasions
      1. EX: “traditional clothing United States” OR “la ropa tradicional Estados Unidos”
  2. Look through the different types of clothing that are common in that country and choose an AUTHENTIC, APPROPRIATE photo with two or more people.
  3. Describe what each person in your photo is wearing IN SPANISH
    1. EX: La mujer lleva los pantalones azules y la camisa blanca. (The woman is wearing blue pants and a white shirt.)
    2. DON’T FORGET to use proper noun/adjective agreement in your sentences.

Helpful words for your sentences:
         El hombre= The man
         La mujer= The woman
         El niño= The boy
         La niña= The girl

Week 3: May 25th-29th: Final slide and editing

This week we will be adding a final slide and going back through to edit all the rest of our slides.

Directions for this week (8th slide and editing):
  1. Create your final conclusion slide
    1. Decide how you would like to wrap up your project for your audience. Perhaps you would like to say “thanks for watching” or “I hope you learned something about ______.” or maybe just a common phrase or saying about your country (see ideas below).
    2. Make sure your final slide is visually appealing—maybe add a photo or some cool word art.

3. When you have finished your 8th slide, go back and look at all of the slides in your presentation. Ask yourself the following questions:
  1. Did I complete everything on this slide?
  2. Did I write ONLY in Spanish on slides 4-7?
  3. Do my slides look nice?
  4. Am I proud of my work?
  5. Were there suggestions from Señorita Watts that I need to double check?
  6. Do I want to add animations and transitions? (THIS IS OPTIONAL)
4. When you are 100% sure you’ve finished your project, send me an email saying you’re done. I will know at that point I can post your project to our sharing space.
